There is a distribution list for program participants: viral11@kitp.ucsb.edu. Updated each week, this contains all participants present in the current week and those expected the next week. To prevent spam, you must be on the list to send to the list. If you have problems sending or receiving, or just wish to join, you may add your current email address by sending a blank message to viral11-on@kitp.ucsb.edu . You may remove yourself by sending to viral11-off@kitp.ucsb.edu.
Guidance for the Speakers
at the VIRAL11 Program There are two kinds of talks: 1. Morning talks; 2. Afternoon talks.
Morning talks should not last more than 60 minutes altogether, including discussion. If there is only one talk in the morning, it may last up to 80 minutes altogether. Afternoon talks should not last more than 40 minutes altogether.
Experience has shown that the duration of a talk at KITP is easily double the one of a comparable well-planned talk at other venues. Thus speakers are strongly advised to prepare material for a talk lasting respectively 30min (morning), 40min (morning, when there is only one talk) or 20min (afternoon). It may help to state the conclusionsearly in the talk (as the second or third slide), because the road to them can be full of traps and forks, and it helps the audience to know where one is going to.
Cookies and coffee: daily (except Tuesdays when there is a Physics Dept Colloquium), about 3:15 p.m.
Wine and cheese, 5:00 - 6:00; approximately every other Monday, except when other events intervene.
Monday, 12:15 : Director's Blackboard Lunch. Frequent, but not necessarily every week. These informal talks about an ongoing program are especially for non-program participants. All scientists are strongly encouraged to attend.
Tuesday, 4:00 : UCSB Physics Dept Colloquium
Wednesday, 2:00 : KITP Colloquium (about once a month)
There's a shower in Room 2119, first come, first served. Please leave it suitable for use by the next person, especially if you dragged sand in with your wet suit.
Much, much more, starting from the KITP Visit Info page.
